Week 23- Diary

This week i created my video 5 for the evaluation. I have varied the different types of media within each video to show off my magazine in various ways. For this video i created a powerpoint and then used Camstudio to record it and put it into premier. I then used a dictaphone to make a voice recording to go over the top of my powerpoint so i can explain what is happening on screen.

I think these media types are effective because it engages the reader in the video as they can hear your voice and then link it with the images being shown and see how i have applied my knowledge into different pages of the magazine.

Week 22- Diary

This past week, i have completed my fourth evaluation video and i did this by using premier to put together a compilation of screen shots, youtube clips and jpegs of my magazine. I was adressing what my audience would be and why according to the different features of my magazine.

Displaying it in this format is useful because i can easily see what features of the magazine are appealing to people and it also gives me a chance to explain why i chose to do certain things on my magazine. Also, identifying my target audience makes it easier for me to design the magazine as i know who i am trying to attract and make it suitable for.

Week 21- diary

This week i have managed to complete my second evaluation video and also made a start on my third. The second video is talking about how different social groups are reflected in the magazine. I created this by using Camstudio to film a prezi i had made. I then made a voice recording to go over the top of the prezi and this
reinforces the images and text i have written. I then synced the two together in premier and now the finished video can be found on my blog.

Week 20- Diary

I have started my first evaluation question this week which was 'In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?' To create this i have made a video in premier, which includes different examples of magazine and pages and also Youtube clips to reinforce the types of bands within the magazine. I then recorded a voice over for the whole of the video to explain what the video is showing and what typical conventions i have included in my magazine and which i have changed slightly.

Week 19- diary

This week i completed my audience feedback. I did this by filming different people, all from the same target audience to see what they thought about my magazine and what they thought were the positives and negatives. I asked both media students and non media students to see if their opinions varied atall and if they spotted different things in the magazine.  I made up a set of questions to ask my audience so i could compare answers easily and see where i could of maybe improved and also what i executed well.

Week 18- Diary

Over half term, I have finished the rest of my evaluation questions and made sure I included as much media terminology as possible. I made sure i was always considering my target audience and giving reasonings for all my choices in the maagzine. I thouroughly analysed each page and looked into why i completed them the way i did. I also spoke about how i managaed my time efficiently so i met the deadline on time.

Week 16-Diary

This week,  I started and finished my article double page spread for my final magazine. I used the feedback i had from teachers and peers in my class to make suitable changes that they thought were necessary. I believe i have now included all the elements for a succesful double page spread and looks professional for my final magazine. I also completed the next evaluation question for my overall evaluation for homework which means i am now half way through writing my evaluation which means i am on track for finishing my coursework on time.

Week 15-Diary

This week i filmed another student in my media class giving feedback on my final draft of my magazine. She analysed each page giving them positive comments and also improvements. This was helpful as i could see what someone with knowledge of magazines thought about it and also she fits into my target audience so its a good indication of what people will think of my magazine.

I also completed my second evaluation question which was asking about the social goups represented in the magazine, so i talked about how i have made it specific to the younger demographic as they are my target audience. I also explained how i related it to both females and males and also tried to vary the content so i widen my target audience as much as possible.

This week i started my first evaluation question which was asking me to explain the features i included in my magazine that can be found in other similar magazines already published. I why i kept to some of the steretypical rules and didnt to some of the others to make my magazine unique. However, some features such as the barcode and website name are vital and therefore i made sure i included them. But i did make it my own my using unusual camera shots that wouldnt necessarily be used in other magazines to vary the page layout and the overall look of the magazine. I hope this will make it stand out from other similar magazines and make it appeal more to my target audience.

Week 12- Diary

I have been completing my final drafts for the front  cover, 2 double page spreads and the contents page for my music magazine. I used photoshop to create these, and it was important that i looked back at the research i had done previously, in preperation for designing the magazine. i took into consideration the different sell lines that would be suitable, and also which colour scheme would look the most effective and tie in with the music genre of Indie/Rock. I tried to use as many photos as possible and made sure my model was wearing a different outfit on the front cover, compared to the outfit she is wearing on the double page spreads. This then highlights that the article is different from the front cover and reinforces the thought of having an insight into their life through the interview.
I made sure I included the masthead on all the pages to make the magazine more continuous and also included different ways of recieving the information from the magazine such as social networking sites and also the magazines website.
 I am pleased with the end results and am therefore hoping my final magazine pages will be very similar to these. I think that i have formed a good outline of what i want my magazine to look like and this will work in my favour when i come to make the real thing.

Week 11- Diary

This week i created my Article draft which will eventually be used on my double page spread. I had to think of suitable questions to ask the artist and also answers for the questions. The questions had to relate to the topic of music and how they entered the career, what inspired them and if they had planned it etc. It had to be written as a conversation as it is meant to be someone interviewing them and asking the questions face to face. Therefore i had to include the actions or soudns they made aswell as speech, such as laughter. This will help me when i come to write my final draft as i can look back and see what i originally wrote and what i want to include in the real interview.

Week 10- Diary

This week i created my drafts for the front cover, double page spread and contents page. I created the front cover design by hand and i recorded myself drawing it and then sped up the video which can be found on my blod, to demonstrate that i drew it myself.
I then created my double page spread draft on photoshop because i have an image as the background so it was easier to work out where to position things on photoshop straight away. I used CamStudio to record what i was doing so you can clearly see the different ideas i chose and why i decided to do what i did.
Finally, i drew my contents page by hand and then scanned in the image onto my blog so you can see how i plan to have it. I looked back on different contents pages already out to give me inspiration and so i had an idea on how they are generally layed out and what features they always include.

This week i have completed my colour connotations and name designs. I produced this on a Scribd on my blog and they are closely linked together.

For the colour connotations, i chose to concentrate on red, white and blue as these are the traditional British colours. I found out from my mood board research that the patriotic colours are very popular throughout this particular genre and therefore i thought it would be useful to consider using these colour texts. I explained why i thoguht each colour looked good, or how i may need to adapt them to make them look better.

I also looked at different front styles to see how they looked. I liked the rough and scribbly text because i think it best fits with the rock/indie theme as its very carefree and messy. However i did compare other styles aswell to make sure i had considered all options.

This week i created my Audience profile which is a clear outline of what my target audience is, what my ideal target audience would be and also includes the results of the poll on my blog and how this will help me when creating my magazine. I created this on powerpoint and then uploaded it onto a slideshare.

Identifying my target audience is a good idea because i can always refer back to it, and it give me a clear idea of who i want to the magazie to be aimed at and appeal to at all times. My ideal target audience is hopefully similar to my target audience is, and this mwill make it easier to design the magazine as i know who i am hoping will read it. Therefore i can try and make it appeal to my ideal audience as much as possible. The results i found out from my blog poll were very useful as they told me what people in my age range think about magazines and what they typically expect to feature in it. This now has given me information to work around and make sure i try and stick to, to create a succesful magazine.

Week 4 -Diary

This week i have created my proposal and mood board. These have both helped me understand what i want to do in my magazine and what i want to achieve.

I created my proposal in powerpoint and then uploaded it into slideshare. I included all the information needed for my new magazine and discussed everything in detail. I spoke about my target audience and how i am desiging the magazine around them and what they would be interested in. I also thought about my front page and the images and colours i will use to make it different from other Indie/ Rock magazines. I am pleased with my proposal as i can always look back at it if i get confused or unsure on how i originally wanted to magazine to look or be like.

My mood board has become very useful as i am now starting to think about my photoshoot and what sort of model i will want. I am also using it for inspiration for the outfits to be worn and the different poses i would like to make it unique. I think the colours and patterns are going to be the main focus on my page as i have seen on my mood board various different ways to dress a scene. I will regularly look back at this when i stuck for ideas for my photoshoot.
